My Spoiler-free Review of THE AVENGERS
I finished watching THE AVENGERS about 3 hours ago and until now —- even with all the trailers, interviews, tv spots and other promos I’ve seen before — I still can’t believe it was made. It was EPIC! A-W-E-S-O-M-E-!
Like any other geek and fanboy, I was uber excited about the movie. It has exceeded all my expectations. If you liked the other previous Marvel movies (Iron Man 1 & 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America), you’ll definitely have a blast with this one!
I enjoyed the ACTION, the CHARACTER PLAY and the HUMOR. The cast was a handful but it didn’t feel like the characters were crammed inside a box. Each of them was given the limelight and the character developments were excellent. I was getting goosebumps and laughing out loud alternately throughout the movie (I’m positive that this is the only movie that made me feel that way, so far.).
It was well executed by Director, Joss Whedon. I was already a fan ever since Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. I had no doubts that he could handle a large cast like this. I’m familiar with his style and I thank the Geek Gods for choosing him to pilot this amazing ship. Thank you so much, Joss. You’re the man!
I’m dying for the sequel.
New exclusive posters for the midnight screenings of THE AVENGERS!!!
The 2nd trailer for CABIN IN THE WOODS. Produced by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) — awesome team-up for genre fans. Plus Whedon says the the movie is a “loving hate letter” to horror flicks. I’m in! :)
"Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen. If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.
Joss Whedon reveals the POV character for THE AVENGERS.
Director Joss Whedon has announced that Steve Rogers/Captain America will be at the forefront of the upcoming The Avengers flick.
While it’s no surprise since Cap is the leader of the team in the comics, I think It’s still a great choice because we’ll be seeing how he’ll be adjusting to this “future” world. And I like the way Whedon explained it.
Whedon explains: “So much of [The Avengers] story takes place from Steve Rogers’ perspective, since he’s the guy who just woke up and sees this weird-ass world,” Whedon says. “Everyone else has been living in it. He’s the guy that feels that sense of loss.”
“[The Avengers] is very much about people who are alone — because I’m writing it,” says Whedon. “[Captain America] is kind of the ultimate loner in that way. There is an anachronism to him, and Chris and I have always tried to, without making it goofy or too obvious, make him that same grounded ’40s Steve Rogers he was in the other movie.”
THIS IS IT!!!! The official trailer to THE AVENGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooohooo!!! A-W-E-S-O-M-E !!!! I can’t can’t can’t wait!!! Hahaha!
The Avengers on the Cover of Entertainment Weekly
The Avengers hit the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue. Plus we have some new set photos too. Not impressed by the cover but we get a good look at Cap’s new costume in one of the pictures. Sweet!
Joss Whedon reacts on the Buffy reboot.
Here is Joss Whedon’s response to the whole Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot thing. I feel your pain Joss!!! E Online’s Kristin Dos Santos said “Just when you thought you couldn’t fan out on him any more, Joss treats this potentially devastating news with class, heart and humor.” I totally agree! Tell THE AVENGERS to go kick the butts of the people responsible for this!!! :D
Kristin, I’m glad you asked for my thoughts on the announcement of Buffy the cinema film. This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can’t think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.
Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, “Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER.” Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, “I’ll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!” Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?
I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don’t love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I’m also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can’t wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I’m making a Batman movie. Because there’s a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.
Leave me to my pain! Sincerely, Joss Whedon.

A Buffy reboot?!!!
Another movie reboot is on the way. And this time it’s one of my all-time favorite TV series and characters —-> Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’m still not sure if I should be ecstatic or disappointed.
Rumors have been going around about Buffy the Vampire Slayer being rebooted for the big screen ever since the hit show ended. But Joblo reports that this is coming from Warner Bros. so it may be official.
Atlas Entertainment announced today it is rebooting the beloved franchise, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Warner Bros. Pictures. Atlas’ Charles Roven and Steve Alexander will produce the feature film alongside Doug Davison and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment (The Ring, How to Train Your Dragon, The Departed). Whit Anderson is writing the script.
“Whit approached us with an exciting idea about how to update Buffy,” said Roven. “There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character’s return to the big screen. We’re thrilled to team up with Doug and Roy on a re-imagining of Buffy and the world she inhabits. Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be.”
No mention of Joss Whedon and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Joss Whedon was offered the film before but turned it down because of creative differences. This is what I don’t like about the project. No Whedon?!! He’s the reason why the show became a phenomenon! He transformed a “so-so” teen-comedy film about vampires into a great and critically acclaimed TV series. I can understand if Gellar won’t be in the movie but she could at least have a cameo.
I really hope they get Whedon as Director and/or Writer. Without him, it will feel like The Justice League without Superman. But since it’s still early, I’ll take this news with a a grain of salt (Evelyn Salt where are you? haha!). I love to see Buffy again but I want it done right.
